Umut is one of the design leads of MUUM who is deeply involved in the delivery of projects in many different sectors, taking a truly hands-on approach and also, he is responsible for the strategic direction of all parts of the practice and ensuring the whole team is well focussed and motivated to deliver a high-quality service. He has completed his undergraduate studies at Istanbul Technical University, and he has received his master’s degree with a thesis on "Information Systems in Architecture Offices" in 2001 at the same institution.

After his graduation in 1995, he participated in national and international architectural competitions where he received awards at different levels. He participated as a studio instructor and jury member in architectural schools. Umut and Murat Aksu founded MUUM in 1998 and OptiMUUM in 2017, combining their long lasting friendship with the ideal of "working for a better future".

Umut served as a Board Member (Treasurer, Vice President) for two consecutive terms at Association of Free Architects of Istanbul (ISMD). In 2018, with the strong belief that agile transformation in IT sector will shed light on the construction sector in the future, he adapted “Scrum” methodology and skills to the design process at MUUM and he is also a founding member of "Agile Construction Türkiye” which leads the transformation of the construction sector in Türkiye. Along with his practise at MUUM, he led a project studio under the name of "Pit-stop Agile Design Studio" which utilized agile methodology in architectural design at the Istanbul Technical University from 2016 to 2019.

Umut is currently working as a coordinator at MUUM FutureLAB, a social responsibility and research platform, and continues to work for a better future.
