Description

Internship at MUUM: What was it like to do an architectural internship in an agile working environment? Experience of Defne.

Hello! My name is Defne Miski, and I am a senior student at İTÜ Elginkan High School. I have long aspired to study architecture, and I have recently graduated from the new IB program. My primary goal is to pursue an architecture degree abroad. To gain insight into the field and understand how an architecture office operates, I decided to do an internship in a professional setting. After consulting with architects I knew, I received two separate recommendations for MUUM, which led me to apply. I was invited for an interview and was accepted. This marked the beginning of my internship journey at MUUM.

As a high school intern, I initially expected to be more of an observer, focusing on understanding the daily workflow of an architect and how an architectural office functions. However, my experience turned out to be more hands-on than I anticipated. I had the opportunity to work on a small project of my own, designing within the coworking and coliving concepts. During this process, I learned how to use SketchUp and later 3D-printed the model I had created. This experience allowed me to understand how 3D printers work and how architectural models are prepared for client presentations.

The most valuable aspect of my internship was the conversations I had with the architects and university interns at MUUM. Learning from their experiences gave me significant insight into architectural education and professional life.

If I were to describe MUUM in three words, I would say: dynamic, collaborative, and friendly. My time here provided me with invaluable experiences that will shape my future architectural education. I am grateful to the MUUM team for this opportunity.
