Description
Internship at MUUM… What was it like to do an architectural internship in an agile working environment? Experience of Emir.
Hello! I’m Emir, a fourth-year student at Istanbul Technical University. My major is civil engineering, and I’m also pursuing a double major in architecture. This summer, I had the opportunity to complete my office internship at MUUM.
While searching for an internship, I explored various architecture firms, but most of their websites lacked detailed information about their internship programs. When I visited MUUM’s website, I found videos featuring past interns sharing their experiences. These videos provided me with great insight into what to expect. After watching them, I reviewed MUUM’s projects and felt that their design philosophy aligned with my interests. That’s when I decided to apply.
My internship experience was both enjoyable and enriching. I was accepted alongside two friends, which made the transition much smoother. Since we already knew each other, adapting to the office environment was quick and effortless.
During my time at MUUM, I worked on a project from its conceptual development phase all the way to its presentation to the client. My tasks included preparing presentations, developing the concept, and working on spatial planning. Additionally, I contributed to the drawing of elevator lobbies, which allowed me to explore different aspects of architectural design. While I wasn’t directly involved in interior design projects, I had the opportunity to observe and learn from the team working on them, which was a valuable experience for me.
Beyond the work itself, MUUM’s social environment was incredibly engaging. The monthly Happy Hour events added a fun element to our experience, and we even had the chance to participate in a Pecha Kucha presentation, which was an exciting and memorable activity.
If I were to describe MUUM in three words, I would say: flexible, dynamic, and inspiring.
