Internship at MUUM… What was it like to do an architectural internship in an agile working environment? Experience of Simay.

Hello! My name is Simay Alptürk. I recently graduated from Yıldız Technical University with a degree in Architecture conducted entirely in English. Ever since my high school years, I have been passionate about pursuing a career in architecture. This field captivates me because it intricately combines creative expression with technical proficiency, two elements that I deeply identify with. I firmly believe that architecture not only enhances our problem-solving abilities but also fosters a greater awareness of the environment in which we live. Throughout my education, there were moments when I felt a sense of alienation and anxiety regarding the working environment. However, the compulsory internships offered by the program allowed me to gain invaluable hands-on experience, serving as a trial run for my future career in this dynamic field.

My first interaction with MUUM began when I explored their website. I immediately resonated with the human-centric approach they employ in their projects. After successfully completing the application and evaluation process, I was thrilled to embark on my three-month internship. MUUM stands out with a distinctive work culture that differentiates it from other architecture firms. Each day starts with a planning session, which serves as a valuable source of motivation and helps maintain organization throughout my tasks. The friendly environment encourages open communication, allowing anyone to seek assistance whenever they feel uncertain. I also have the opportunity to attend meetings related to the project I am working on, which fosters a sense of belonging and makes me feel like an integral part of the team rather than just an intern. My internship at MUUM has significantly boosted my confidence in the field and reshaped my understanding of what it means to be part of a human-centric architecture firm.

As MUUM collaborates and integrates various aspects of architectural principles in its projects, I had the opportunity to work on the technical side of a shopping mall project in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. During my internship, I gained valuable knowledge about managing a construction project, which enhanced my technical design and presentation skills. Additionally, MUUM emphasizes the importance of time management and effective division of labor. I can confidently say that my internship experience was both educational and enjoyable. I am sincerely grateful to the MUUM team for providing me with such a wonderful internship opportunity.
